Friends of AEA Weekly Newsletter
February 20-24th, 2012

Hello Einstein Parents -

This week, we are splitting the FoAEA newsletter into one focused on the Elementary school and one focued on the Middle School. We hope that this will make events and announcements for your child's school more obvious. Over the coming weeks, We will be working on the format, so please let us know what you like and don't like. There will be links to both newsletters under the "Connect with FoAEA" section of the newsletter.

Many of you asked about the results of the Cake and Chili Auction. $4000 raised for art and music! That was a lot of cake, a lot of chili, and a lot of help from the Einstein community and the Kearny Mesa High students to make it happen! Thank you all who came out in support and went home with wonderful treats.

Remember that next week will be short due to the President's Day observance on Monday.

Some brief announcements. Marcia Fox is looking for volunteers to help plan the 2012 Father Daughter Dance. Help raise money for AEA by bringing in your box tops. Tomorrow is the last event for Live Music Month Details for these and other programs below.

Featured Events and Announcements

Finish Chelsea's Run 5k Run/Walk

Joey Hammack, a 7th Grader in the Middle School, has been invited to be a Student Ambassador for Chelseas' Light Foundation, to organize and form a school team for the "Finish Chelsea's Run 5k Run/Walk" on Saturday, March 3rd at 7:30 in Balboa Park.

"Finish Chelsea’s Run" has already become a well-loved gathering that grew out of community response to the 2010 passing of stand-out high school scholar and athlete Chelsea King, whose life was cut short by a heinous act in the midst of a training run.

This annual run/walk is now the primary fundraiser for Chelsea’s Light Foundation’s Sunflower Scholarship Fund, providing scholarships for San Diego County college-bound teens who have embraced Chelsea’s service-over-self ethic, as well as “joie de vivre” (joy of life) scholarships for enrichment activities. The more participants at the run/walk, the more we can give back to San Diego youth!

Please go to www.chelseaslight.org and follow the steps to register for a team, and search for the "Albert Einstein Academies Fusion Flyers " Team. If you have already registered and would like to be part of our team, you can contact Joey Hammack (via mom Bobbi Hammack) or (619) 589-9480 and we can switch you over.

You can sign up even as late as the morning of the race.

For those pre-registered, packet and bib pick-up will be at Road Runner Sports Carlsbad on Feb 28 (4 - 6 pm) and Road Runner Sports Convoy on Feb 29 (11 am - 6 pm).

Please join Joey Hammack and sign up to be a member of the "Albert Einstein Academies Fusion Flyers" Team! Your run/walk mileage will earn you running club sticks as well!

Gardening Update

Organic produce boxes, (CSA boxes) from Suzie's Farm will be delivered to AEA on Tuesdays, picked fresh in the morning. Click here for the flier if you would like to join. This is a more convenient and cheaper way than going to the Farmer's Market at other locations.

Donations needed: If you have any extra sunhats or plain baskets sitting around your home, we could use them for gardening. Please drop off near the greenhouse.

Fundraising Opportunities

Artsonia

Artsonia will donate 15% of every purchase of art keepsakes to the school arts program.

Albert Einstein Academy has teamed up with Artsonia -- the world's largest online kid's art museum -- to display the students' artwork. Elementary students will be coming home with Artsonia slips with their individual id and security key to access your student's personal online portfolio.

Anyone can view the school gallery online. Visitors can browse the artwork in the school gallery by grade level, or by specific exhibits. Albert Einstein Academy students join thousands of students from over 130 countries whose artwork is showcased on Artsonia. This program is a wonderful way to get parents and family members more involved in Art Education.
